Dave St. Peter, president of the Minnesota Twins, precisely represents the mission of PGF, and his story is one of accomplishment born from opportunity. The Bismarck, N.D. native grew up in what is now widely known as Twins Territory, and after graduating from the University of North Dakota, he secured his first position in the Minnesota Twins organization in 1990, as an intern. After establishing his worth with the team, he quickly earned a full-time position and began to work his way up through the club’s front office. In 2002, St. Peter was named the fourth president in the history of the Minnesota Twins.
He oversees the team’s strategic planning process and the club’s business departments, including ticket sales and service, corporate partnerships, marketing, public affairs, broadcasting, ballpark operations, human resources, technology, and finance. St. Peter, who is also involved in business-related baseball decisions, was central to the approval, design, construction, and opening of Target Field, the team’s new outdoor ballpark in Minneapolis.
His tenure at the helm has been marked by the greatest era of sustained success in the Twins’ illustrious history, as St. Peter assembled a sales and marketing team that increased attendance by more than 200 percent over the last decade. In 2010, the Twins set a new single-season franchise attendance record by attracting more than 3.2 million fans, and the club was recognized by ESPN: The Magazine as having the best stadium experience in all of professional sports.
"There is no substitute for Excellence – not even success. Success is tricky, perishable and often outside our control; the pursuit of success makes a poor cornerstone, especially for a whole personality. Excellence is dependable, lasting and largely an issue within our own control; pursuit of excellence, in and for itself, is the best of foundations,” The Heart of the Order, by Thomas Boswell (Doubleday, 1989).
